After graduating with a
BA(Hons) in Fashion Design from the University in Salford, I worked for many
years in Manchester, designing nightwear for many big high street stores. I enjoyed the whole process of designing from
collaborating with buyers, trend research, competitive shopping reports,
developing ideas through to agreeing on the final collection! In 2006 me and
my-now-husband moved back to the Cotswolds got married and had our first child and
I was lucky enough to continue my job working from home and really
concentrating on the design process. But when the recession hit in 2008 I was
made redundant I decided to become a full-time Mum. We now have two boys and enjoy our life in
the countryside. Although while the boys
were young I needed something to fulfil my creative needs, so sat down with an
old Singer sewing machine and started to embroider the birds that visited our
garden and that is when LWD was born. I now love being here to watch my boys
grow up alongside doing something that I really love!
The Process
The Process All my items are handmade
by myself and all designs are stitched on my home sewing machine using a technique
call free motion embroidery, which is essentially drawing on the sewing machine
using thread – no fancy programmed machines have been used! At University I learnt how to create patterns
from scratch and was taught how to use many different types of sewing machines,
but I have taught myself how to use free motion embroidery to create my
designs. Please go to the shop
section to look at my range of homewares, accessories and stitched ‘kind words’
which have been handmade and designed by myself. If you are interested in having something
made which would be personalised to you then please get in touch through the
contact page.
